What is Depression

Everyone experiences low moods from time to time. However, many people experience depression. An estimated 50% of CEOs and entrepreneurs are four times more likely to suffer from depression than the general public.

Depression can be mild, moderate or severe and can significantly impact how you feel, think, and behave. It can arise due to changes in brain chemistry, genetics, or external factors, e.g., chronic stressors, painful life events, financial crisis, covid19 pandemic, etc.

There are various signs and symptoms of depression, including:

  • Deep-seated sadness
  • Withdrawal
  • Appetite changes
  • Increased fatigue
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
  • Apathy or feelings of futility
  • Inability to sit still
  • Difficulty in decision-making, concentrating or thinking
  • Feelings of worthlessness and guilt
  • Suicidal thoughts

Feeling depressed can significantly impact how you function in your life, your relationships with those around you, and your work.

Psychotherapy and Counselling for Depression

I offer Existential and CBT psychotherapy and counselling for subthreshold to mild depression for leaders, hr executives, senior managers and entrepreneurs.

Guidelines illustrate that psychotherapy and counselling is an excellent intervention for depression. Furthermore, research shows that CBT therapy is one of the most effective interventions for successfully treating depression. (It is sometimes offered in conjunction with prescribed medication).

Therapy can provide a safe space in which to process feelings and bring focus to finding ways forward. This is by recognising unhelpful or distorted thinking patterns, and intending to change these thoughts and resulting behaviours. It also allows you to respond to challenges in a way that’s more helpful to you.
